Solution

DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED?:  Brocade switch skills
   TIME ESTIMATE:  90 minutes
   TASK COMPLEXITY: 1

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:
   PROBLEM OVERVIEW:

A power supply or fan fails in a Brocade 200e or 300 switch

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:

1. Contact customer and remind them to do a switch configuration back up before shutting down the switch.

Brocade - How to save a switch configuration off to a file (Doc ID 1016713.1)

2. The switch will need to be shutdown if it is still operational since it will need to be replaced.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE?:

Before Oracle Tech is onsite:

Provide replacement switch wwn/serial numbers to the Oracle support engineer that owns the Oracle SR so he can start process to transfer any licenses in order to get the switch in full operation as quickly as possible. Assuming defective switch wwn/serial number is known by Oracle support engineer already. If not the all the information can be provided once onsite.

Once Oracle Tech is onsite with replacement switch:

1.  Label cables and make note of connections

2.  Disconnect cables

3  If rack mounted, remove defective switch from cabinet.

4. Remove rack mount rails from switch

Note: Locate on switches and provide defective and replacement switch wwn/serial numbers to the Oracle support engineer that owns the Oracle SR so he can start process to transfer any licenses in order to get the switch in full operation as quickly as possible.

5. Install rack mount rails on replacement switch

6.  Install switch in rack.

7.  Move SFPs from the defective switch to the replacement switch

8.  Reconnect cables.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE?:

Provide Power to the Switch
To provide power to the SilkWorm 200E and 300:
1. Connect the power cord to the switch and then to a  power source.  Ensure that the cord has a minimum service loop of 6 in. available and
are routed to avoid stress.
2. The power supply LED display amber until POST is complete, and then change to green. The switch usually requires
from 1 to 3 min to boot and complete POST.
3. After POST is complete, verify that the switch power and status LED on the left of the port side of
the switch are green.

Create a Serial Connection
To create a serial connection to the SilkWorm 200E or 300:
1. Remove the plug from the serial port and insert the serial cable provided with the SilkWorm 200E.
2. Connect the serial cable to the serial port on the switch and to an RS-232 serial port on the
workstation. If the serial port on the workstation is RJ-45 instead of RS-232, you can remove the
adapter on the end of the serial cable and insert the exposed RJ-45 connector into the RJ-45 serial
port on the workstation.
3. Disable any serial communication programs running on the workstation.
4. Open a terminal emulator application (such as HyperTerminal for Windows or TERM in a UNIX
environment) and configure the application as follows:
• In a Windows NT, 2000, 2003, ME, or XP environment:
Bits per second: 9600
Databits: 8
Parity: None
Stop bits: 1
Flow control: None
• In a UNIX environment, enter the following command at the prompt:
Connect to the Switch Using the Serial Connection
To log in to the switch through the serial connection:
1. Verify that the switch has completed POST. When POST is complete, the port status and switch
power and status LEDs return to a standard healthy state (green).
2. When the terminal emulator application stops reporting information, press Enter to display the
login prompt.

Set the Switch IP Address
To replace the default IP address and related information:
1. Enter the ipAddrSet command at the terminal emulator application prompt, and enter the requested
information at the prompts:
2. Optionally, verify that the address was correctly set by entering the ipAddrShow command at the
prompt.
3. Record the IP address on the pull out tab provided for this purpose on the port side of the SilkWorm
200E.
4. If the serial port is no longer required, log out of the serial console, remove the serial cable, and
replace the plug in the serial port.
Create an Ethernet Connection
To create an Ethernet connection to the SilkWorm 200E:
1. Remove the plug from the Ethernet port.
2. Connect an Ethernet cable to the switch Ethernet port and to the workstation or to an Ethernet
network containing the workstation.
Set the Switch Domain ID
To set the switch domain ID:
1. Log on to the switch by telnet, using the admin account.
2. Modify the domain ID if required.
The default domain ID is 1. If the switch is not powered on until after it is connected to the fabric
and the default domain ID is already in use, the domain ID for the new switch is automatically reset
to a unique value. If the switch is connected to the fabric after is has been powered on and the
default domain ID is already in use, the fabric segments. To find the domain IDs that are currently
in use, run the fabricShow command on another switch in the fabric.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

Customer will then need to zone switch.  If customer has saved the configuration at some point, the configdownload command can be run to reconfigure the switch.
