Solution

 DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED?: Field Engineer/Administrator will want to be familiar with Brocade Switches.
   TIME ESTIMATE: 2 minutes
   TASK COMPLEXITY: 0

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:
PROBLEM OVERVIEW: A power supply has failed or is suspected faulty and needs replacement.
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:

Identify the power supply that requires replacement:

The unit can run on one power supply, but Brocade recommends you use both power supplies for redundancy.

Identify the power supply that needs replacement.  As viewed from the Non-Port side of the Director:

Power Supply #1 is on the right.
Power Supply #2 is on the left.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE?:

Perform the following steps to replace a power supply unit in the Switch:

1. To leave the Switch in service while replacing a power supply, verify that the other power supply (the one not being replaced) has been powered on for at least four seconds and has a steady green LED.
2. Power off the power supply by pressing the AC power switch to the “0” symbol.
3. Unplug the power cord from the power supply that is being replaced.
4. Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to unscrew the captive screw on the power supply.
5. Remove the power supply from the chassis by pulling the handle on the power supply out, away from the chassis.

CAUTION
Do not force the installation. If the power supply does not slide in easily, ensure that the power supply is correctly oriented before continuing.

Install the new power supply in the chassis:

6. Orient the power supply with the AC power switch on the left.
7. Gently push the power supply into the chassis until it is firmly seated.
8. Secure the power supply to the chassis by screwing in the captive screw using the Phillips-head screwdriver.
9. Plug the power cord in to the power supply and power on the Switch by pressing the AC power switch to the “1” symbol.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE?:

Verify that the LED on the new power supply displays a steady green light while the Switch is operating.  If the LED is not a steady green, ensure that the power supply is securely installed and seated properly.
