 How to successfully Remove and replace HBT card from a SL8500 or SL3000 Tape Library

Solution


DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
   WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED?: Knowledge of SL8500 Library Hardware
   TIME ESTIMATE: 60 minutes
   TASK COMPLEXITY: 2

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:
   PROBLEM OVERVIEW:  HBT card has been determined to be defective and requires replacement.
   WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:  Library must be offline to Host and ACSLS

WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE?:

Refer to the SL8500 Service Manual for complete instructions on removal/replacement of the HBT card.  This will provide pictures, warnings and notes. The HBT replacement for the SL3000 is done using the same procedure.

Remove HBT card from a SL8500

1.request the operator to place the library offline to the Host/ACSLS
2.Open the library rear doors
3.Set related EM card cage circuit breakers 1 to off down
4.Fully loosen four captive screws (1) securing card.
5.Unlatch both card levers outward, simultaneously, to unseat the connector.
7.Pull the card completely out of the card slot.

Replace HBT card for a SL8500

1.Aling the card edges with the slot guides (1) at the top and bottom and push the replacement card into the slot unil it contacts the slot connector.
2.Press both card levers (2) inward, simultaneously to seat the connector. NOTE: The levers auto-latch when the connector is fully seated/
3.Tighten all four captive screws (1) to secure the card
4. Set EM card cage circuit breakers (1) to ON (up)
5Observe wait LEDs on the from keyboard after EM card cage circuit breakers are set to ON.
6.If the from keypad wait LEDs are flashing code is being downloaded to the replaced HBT card.
7.Perform Drive Controller (HBT) Card Verification
8.Close the library rear doors
9.Request the operator to place the library online to the HOST/ACSLS

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
   WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE?:  Bring library back online to Host/ACSLS
