Applies to:Sun StorageTek SL8500 Modular Library System - Version Not Applicable and laterSun StorageTek SL3000 Modular Library System - Version Not Applicable and later Information in this document applies to any platform. GoalTake the Time to Obtain a SnapShot. SolutionWe are not utilizing the Log Snapshot feature as often as we should. Support is often asked to determine "what went wrong" and the primary tool for this work, a Log Snapshot, was not executed and saved. Please, if working on any non-routine problem, take and save a Log Snapshot before booting the library or waiting too long past a failure and losing important data. If your problem appears to require a reboot then a Snapshot is the only thing that will help determine why. It takes a short time and goes a long way in determining what happened. It also provides engineering with important data to prevent problems in future code. New microcode and SLConsole have the ability to both execute and save a Log Snapshots from a remote SLConsole session. Note: For SL3000 code 2.81 the service feature was controlled by SILKS. That is no longer an option and you need to upgrade code if you want to be able enable Service and use Log Snapshot.
