No special skills required, Customer Replaceable Unit (CRU) procedure
TIME ESTIMATE: 30 minutes
TASK COMPLEXITY: 0
FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:
PROBLEM OVERVIEW: A Sun Fire X4440 Coin Cell Battery needs replacement
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
Data backup not required but recommended as a precaution.
Orderly shutdown of applications.
Shutdown of OS and power down of server.
- WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
Ensure standard ESD procedures are followed
1. Power off the server and unplug the power cords from the power supplies
2. Remove the top cover
3. Remove the PCIe Riser Card 0 (closest to power supplies)
4. Using the flat-blade screwdriver, press the latch on the battery compartment and remove the battery
5. Install the replacement battery with the positive side facing upwards (away from motherboard)
6. Install PCIe riser 0
7. Replace top cover and re-attach power cords
8. Login to the ILOM and issue the setdate command to set the correct date and time
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
- WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO
AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Verify the system can boot up into the OS.
Verify no hardware fault is indicated by the service LEDs.
