GoalHow to replace an SFP in a Brocade 5100 5300 Fiber Channel Switch Solution DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
NOTE: Less than 5 minutes per SFP
Remove the cables from the SFP(s) to be replaced.
Pull the bail (wire handle) to release the transceiver. Grasp the bail, and gently but firmly pull the transceiver out of the port. Each SFP has a 10-pad gold-plated PCB-edge connector on the bottom. The correct position to insert an SFP into the upper row of ports is with the gold edge down. The correct position to insert an SFP into the lower row of ports is with the gold edge up. Making sure that the bail (wire handle) is in the unlocked position, place the SFP in the correctly oriented position on the port. Slide the SFP into the port until you feel it click into place; then close the bail. Connect the cables to the transceivers:
Orient a cable connector so that the key (the ridge on one side of connector) aligns with the slot in the transceiver, then insert cable into transceiver until latching mechanism clicks. Note: The cable connectors are keyed to ensure correct orientation. If a cable does not install easily, ensure it is correctly oriented. Repeat for the remaining transceivers as required.
