Goal

Customer has an OVM 3.1.1 environment. On this environment they created an NFS file server on their Oracle 7410 Storage Appliance.

But they are getting permission issues when trying to register it to OVM 3.1.1 Manager.

Is there a recommended ACL specification (for NFS) on an Oracle 7410 Storage Appliance for OVM 3 ?

Registering a Storage Plug-in

Registering an array with the array Storage plug-in enables Oracle VM 3 to discover that array’s storage characteristics.

The plug-in provides cohesive integration of the storage array into the Oracle VM 3 environment, by taking advantage of specific functionality such as LUN modification and mapping/masking to hosts.

By registering the array with a plug-in, administrators can make configuration changes to the storage array directly through the Oracle VM 3 user interface.

The screen shot in Figure 4 illustrates the process of registering an array; the red circle shows where the user can choose the appropriate plug-in.

To register a storage array:

  1. Make sure that your storage server exposes raw disks (Fibre Channel SAN volumes, iSCSI targets and LUNs) to the storage network of your server pool.

  2. In Oracle VM Manager open the 'Hardware' view and open the 'Storage' tab in the navigation pane.

  3. In the navigation pane, select and right-click 'Storage Arrays', then select 'Register Storage Array'. The Register Storage Array dialog box is displayed, where you enter the information necessary for Oracle VM Manager to discover the external storage elements. Oracle has a list of storage units that can be determined using https://support.oracle.com/handbook_partner/Systems/index.html
