DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED?:
Need to be familiar with SFP hardware
TIME ESTIMATE: 2 minutes
TASK COMPLEXITY: 0
REQUIRED TOOL: 5/16-inch door tool (If the switch is installed in an FC-512 Fabricenter equipment cabinet)
FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS
PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
SFP Replacement on Fibre Channel Switch
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:
- Instruct the customer to block the port with the defective SFP. Ensure the system administrator sets any attached device offline.
- If the product is rack-mounted, perform one of the following:
If the product is installed in an FC-512 Fabricenter equipment cabinet, insert the 5/16-inch door tool into the socket hole at the right top of the door (front or rear). Turn the tool counter- clockwise to unlock and open the door.
If the product is installed in a customer-supplied equipment cabinet, unlock and open the cabinet door (front or rear) as directed by the customer representative.
WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE?:
- Locate port that has defective SFP
- Make note or insure any cable in SFP is properly labeled for quick reconnect
- Ensure an ESD grounding cable is connected to the product chassis (or approved bench ground) and your wrist.
- Disconnect cable from SFP
- Disengage the locking mechanism by rotating the wire bale (wire handle) up or down 90 degrees
- Remove defective SFP by pulling the bail (wire handle), sliding the transceiver out of the switch or blade
- With bail (wire handle) out, position replacement SFP in the port and insert it into a port until it is firmly seated, then engage the locking mechanism by rotating the wire bale up or down 90 degrees
- Re-connect cable into SFP
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE?:
- Instruct the customer to un-block the port with the replacemnet SFP.
- If necessary, close and lock the equipment cabinet door.
