 DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED?:
   TIME ESTIMATE: 5 minutes
   TASK COMPLEXITY: 0

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:
PROBLEM OVERVIEW:  An SFP has failed and needs to be replaced
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:  NA
WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE?:

Locate the defective SFP
If there is a cable attached press and hold the cable release
Remove the cable from the SFP.
Pull the bail (wire handle) to release the SFP.
Grasping it by the bail, gently but firmly pull the SFP out of the port.

Caution
If the SFP you are removing does not have a bail, use a small implement such as a screwdriver to press the black release trigger beneath or above the port. Non-bailed SFPs can be damaged by the removal process and are not recommended. Refer to the Brocade Compatibility Matrix for a list of supported SFPs and devices

Making sure that the bail (wire handle) is in the unlocked position, place the SFP in the correctly oriented position on the port.
Slide the SFP into the port until you feel it click into place; then close the bail.
Reattach any cables that had previously been disconnected.
Check the LEDs to verify connectivity via link light.

Note
Each SFP has a 10-pad gold-plated PCB-edge connector on the bottom. The correct position to insert an SFP into the upper row of ports is with the gold edge down. The correct position to insert an SFP into the lower row of ports is with the gold edge up.

Note
The Brocade 300 supports only Brocade-branded SFPs. If you use an unqualified SFP, the switchShow command output shows the port in a Mod_Inv state. Fabric OS also logs the issue in the system error log.
