FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS PROBLEM OVERVIEW: T5440 Service Processor failure WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? : The customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown. Then power down system and disconnect the power cords. A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution. WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE: NOTE: When replacing the SP, you must restore the configuration settings maintained in the SP. Before replacing the SP, save the configuration using the Oracle ILOM backup utility. Refer to the Oracle Integrated Lights Out Manager (ILOM) 3.0 Documentation for instructions on backing up and restoring the Oracle ILOM configuration: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E19860-01/E21549/bbghcfdj.html#scrolltoc NOTE: When replacing motherboard or Service Processor in LDOMs environment, prior to the replacement follow the steps and guidelines in Document 1019720.1 to prevent loss of LDOMs configuration data and to recover LDOMs environment after replacement.
1. Perform Electrostatic Discharge – Antistatic Prevention Measures 2. Power off the server and unplug power cords from the power supplies. 3. Remove the server from the rack, extend the Server to the Maintenance Position 4. Remove the top cover.
B) Removing the Service Processor. 1. Locate the service processor. 2. Loosen the two captive No. 2 Phillips screws securing the service processor to the motherboard. 3. Lift the service processor up and out of the system. 4. Place the service processor on an antistatic mat.
NOTE: If you are replacing a faulty service processor, you must install the IDPROM onto the new service processor. Do the following: - Remove the IDPROM from the old service processor. - Install the IDPROM onto the new service processor.
C) Installing the Service Processor 1. Ensure that the power cords are disconnected from the system. 2. Lower the service processor into position. 3. Reinstall the power cords to the power supplies. 9. Slide the Server Into the Rack 10. Connect the Power Cords to the Server11. Power On the Server, Verify the service processor functionality. NOTE: If you created a backup of your Oracle ILOM configuration, use the ILOM restore utility to restore the configuration of the replacement service processor. Refer to the Oracle ILOM documentation for instructions.
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE WHAT ACTION DOES THE FE/CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE: Boot system and monitor boot sequence for errors. Test functionality of system: 1. Run the Solaris "fmadm faulty" and SP/ILOM "show faulty" command (if only ALOM is supported run "showfaults -v" command) to verify that the fault has been cleared. 2. Perform one of the following tasks based on your verification results: * If the previous steps did not clear the fault, refer to doc 1004229.1 for information about the tools and methods you can use to diagnose and clear component faults. * If the previous steps indicate that no faults have been detected, the component has been replaced successfully. No further action is required 3. Restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
