StorageTek SL150 Modular Tape Library - Version All Versions and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

The StorageTek SL150 Modular Tape Library has a different S/N format from that of the other StorageTek libraries.

Solution

The new S/N format for the SL150 library will start with seven characters and then will have a "+" and then will end with ten more characters.

This S/N can be found on a label on the back of the library and then also from the Web GUI.

How to locate the S/N of a SL150 Modular Tape Library from the Web GUI:

  1. Point a Web Browser to the IP address that is set on the SL150 library.
  2. Log in as an "admin", "operator", or "viewer" user.
  3. Click on the "Library" drop down just to the right of the Main Menu List.
  4. From the drop down click on "Properties".  A window will pop up that will have the S/N listed down towards the bottom.

How to locate the S/N label physically on the SL150 library:

  1. Go to the back of the SL150 library.
  2. Locate the Base Module (the top most module that contains the robotic unit.
  3. While at the back of the SL150 the S/N label will be on the left hand side of the Base Module.

Serial Number Location

Note: Refer to the attached files for further details on what is seen on the SL150 properties.

The base chassis CRU does not have a system S/N label on it so there are 3 options if the base chassis CRU is replaced:

1.  Peel the old label off of the old base chassis and affix it on the new base chassis CRU
2.  Print their own label that has the correct S/N
3.  Have the TSC contact manufacturing and have an official S/N shipped to the customer

We were trying to get a process set up in the early days of the SL150 for this but there was no good way to do it so we settled with "The TSC can contact Manufacturing and request an official label be printed and sent to the customer".
