FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS



CAP PROBLEM OVERVIEW:


System Centerplane Failure



WHAT STATE SHOULD SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?



Domains has to be shutted down



WHAT ACTION DOES ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

 

1. Halt the Solaris operating environment in each domain and power off the system.



2. Attach a wrist strap or foot strap. Connect the ESD jack from the system to your wrist strap or foot strap. Place a grounded ESD mat close to the system.



3. Preparing to remove the centerplanes:


a. Disconnect all I/O cables.


b. At the front of the system, make sure that the three power switches on the AC input box are turned off.


c. Disconnect the AC input box power cords.

d. Remove all boards (including filler boards), fan trays, and the AC input box

e. Remove the ID board from the centerplane.

4. At the rear of the system, remove the left five screws of the mounting bracket for


access to remove the screen

5. At the rear of the system, remove the screws securing the rear screen panel to the system

Remove the screen by first swinging the left side out past the mounting bracket and then remove the screen.

6. Disconnect the cable connecting the system backplane and the power backplane

7. Remove the three screws securing the cover over the bus bar, and remove the bus bar insulator

8. Remove the eight screws securing the bus bar to the backplanes
There are four screws at the lower left and four screws at the upper right

9. Remove the 36 screws securing the system centerplane to the chassis.

10. Remove the system centerplane carefully from the chassis.



Now is possible to install the new System Centerplane



11. Align the system centerplane at the bottom rear of the chassis, and replace the screws.

12. Secure the bus bar to the centerplane by replacing the eight screws.

13. Replace the three screws securing the protective cover over the bus bar

14. Connect the signal cable to the system centerplane and the power backplane

15. Replace the screws securing the rear screen panel to the system

16. Replace the five screws securing the left mounting bracket to the cabinet

17. Attach a wrist strap or foot strap. Connect the ESD jack from the system to your wrist strap or foot strap.

18. Reinstall the ID board from the old centerplane.

19. At the front of the system, reinstall all boards (including filler boards), fan trays, the and the AC input box

20. Connect the AC power cords to the AC input box.

21. Make sure that the three power switches on the AC input box are turned on.

22. Power on the system.

23. Refer to Sun Fire[TM] v1280, E2900, 3800, 4800, 4810, 6800, E4900, E6900: Centerplane/ID board configuration answers (Doc ID 1011939.1)
for how to answer the questions that will be prompted now

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE



WHAT ACTION DOES CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:



Boot system if not already booting.
