WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED?:

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:
PROBLEM OVERVIEW: A Sun Server X3-2L (Sun Fire X4270 M3) Left LED Indicator Module needs replacement
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
If the system is still up and functioning, customer should perform an orderly and graceful shutdown of applications and OS. Then power off the server and remove the AC power cords from the system.
A data backup is not a prerequisite but is a wise precaution.

If this server is part of an Exadata or SuperCluster, please follow shutdown instructions in DOC ID: 1188080.1
If this server is part of a Big Data Appliance X3-2, please follow shutdown instruction in DOC ID: 2099858.1
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
1. Prepare the server for service.
- Power off the server and disconnect the power cords from the power supplies.
- Extend the server to the maintenance position in the rack.
- Remove Top Cover
- Attach an anti-static wrist strap.
2. Remove the left indicator module.
- Remove the two No. 2 Phillips screws that secure the LED indicator module to the server front panel
- Disconnect the LED indicator module cable from the motherboard, and gently pull the cable through the chassis mid-plane and side wall of the server chassis
- Remove the LED indicator module from the server front panel and place it on an antistatic mat.
3. Install the Replacement left indicator module.
- Push the LED indicator module cable through the side wall and mid-plane of the server chassis
- Reconnect the LED indicator module cable to the motherboard.
- Insert and tighten the two No. 2 Phillips screws to secure the LED indicator module to the server front panel.
4. Return the Server to operation
- Remove any anti-static measures that were used.
- Re-install the Top Cover
- Return the server to it's normal operating position within the rack.
- Re-install the AC power cords and any data cables that were removed.
- Power on server. Verify that the Power/OK indicator led lights steady on.
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Boot up system and verify full functionality
