GoalTo understand the process to promote a storage domain to the default domain in order to migrate Persistence.
SolutionA geomap will isolate the brick(s) location of the persistence vlun. For troubleshooting reasons, the persistence vlun may need to be migrated onto a different storage class. Release 5 (and above) of the Axiom Storage Manager Software supports migration of the persistence vlun from one storage class to other. This is accomplished using storage domains. If the target storage domain is a mixture of SATA & FC bricks, the persistence vlun will migrate to the SATA storage class by default. To migrate the persistence vlun from SATA Bricks to FC Bricks, a storage domain with only FC bricks will need to be created prior to the migration. Example: Let us assume that all Brick types (FC and SATA) are within the same default storage domain (i.e. there are no specific storage domains created). It will be a requirement to first migrate all of the LUNs residing on the FC Bricks to take up residency on SATA Bricks. (NOTE: Clone space for those LUNs will need to be deleted also). Then create a new Storage Domain and move all of the FC Bricks into that domain. Then open the storage domain admin page and change the new domain (with the FC Bricks in it) to become the Primary Domain. The persistence vlun will migrate to the Primary Domain i.e. move from SATA class to FC class.
Below are the steps required to promote a storage domain to become the primary storage domain:
