Goal

The goal of this document is to provide the documentation and brief overview of how to install ASR for Exalytics server

Solution

Auto Service Request Software (ASR) is a customer-installable software feature of warranty and Oracle Support Services for Oracle engineered systems.  When installed and configured, ASR can auto-detect common hardware problems as they occur.  It is designed to enable faster problem resolution by eliminating the need to initiate contact with Oracle Support Services for common hardware component failures. ASR also simplifies support operations by using electronic diagnostic data.

ASR is applicable only for component faults and not all component failures are covered, though the most common components (such as disk, fan, and power supplies) are covered.  For a full description of covered components, see the relevant link for your Exalytics server type below:

ASR Fault Coverage for Exalytics "X" Series Servers

ASR Fault Coverage for Exalytics T5-8 Servers

The ASR feature was introduced with Oracle Exalytics "X" series servers with version 1.0.0.0.1 Patchset (PS1) and later.  It is also available on Exalytics T5-8 servers. For information on ASR installation and configuration, please see the Oracle Fusion Middleware Oracle Exalytics In-Memory Machine Owner's Guide available on the Exalytics documentation page.

If you are using Exalytics Release 2.0.0.0.0 or 2.0.0.1.0, please also refer to Exalytics - Auto Service Request (ASR) Utility Missing from Base Image in Release 2.0.0.0.0 and 2.0.0.1.0 <Document 2180975.1>.

Once you have successfully installed ASR components, you can begin installation and configuration of ASR. Although, ASR monitors the Exalytics server, it is recommended that you install ASR on a non-Exalytics system.  For full details, please see "Installing Auto Service Request (ASR) Software" in the Oracle Exalytics In-Memory Machine Owner's Guide.  This guide is available at the documentation link listed above.
