Solution

 DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED?: Knowledge of SL8500/SL3000 hardware.
   TIME ESTIMATE: 60 minutes
   TASK COMPLEXITY: 2

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:
PROBLEM OVERVIEW: Problem has been diagnosed as a bad HBK and requires replacement.

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?: Library has to be varied/modified offline.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE?:

Refer to the SL8500 Service Manual for complete instructions that include Notes, Warnings and Pictures of the procedure.

HBK Removal:

1. Open the library rear doors.

2. It should not be necessary to reconfigure the library settings after replacing the HBK/PUK card, the site configuration should be copied from the mirror on the HBC/HBCr card. But as a precaution to any unexpected issues record the site configuration examples; IP configuration settings, partition information or select active cell configuration if they apply, cli hwactivation configuration settings if it applies, and the type of hwactivation license files installed if they apply.

3. Power off the card cage.

4. Fully loosen 4 captive screws securing the upper-left cover plate.

5. Pull the HBK card completely out of the card slot.

HBK Replacement:

1. Align the card edges with the slot guides and push the replacement HBK card into the slot until it contacts the slot connector.

2. Press card firmly to seat the connector.

3. Position the cover plate.

4. Tighten 4 captive screws to secure the cover plate.

5. Power on the card cage.

6. After the library completes initialization in SLC Systems Detail screen, verify that all of the library configuration settings are correct and reconfigure if necessary.

7. Perform a CLI command "prom print" to verify the Serial Number of the new HBK matches the Serial Number of the library.  If there is a mismatch, a new HBK will have to be ordered with the correct serial number.

8. Close the library rear doors.

9. Have the operator vary/modlfy the library online.

10. Be sure to return the defective HBK card to the factory, as it poses a security risk to retain it on site.

NOTE: HBK/PUK card - needs to be returned (parts are not consumable).
