Goal

Many of the Oracle Midrange Disk Array products provide for storage expansion with the addition of the CSM200 tray. The CSM200 tray holds up to 16 disk drives as well as its own redundant power, cooling and I/O. The I/O component (Commonly referred to as an "IOM" Input/Output Module or "ESM" External Storage Module) has two seven segment displays.  A optimal IOM contains a two digit value in the display.  This two digit integer (It may be any value from 00-87, 89-99) is known as the tray ID. The tray id is soft assigned (each tray id needs to be unique in the array) or may be set using Sun Storage Common Array Manager (CAM). When there is a problem with an IOM, the seven segment display will return an alpha-numeric code. This document details the code and its meaning to assist in troubleshooting the problem at hand.

Fix

The following list explains the meaning of the status code displayed on a CSM200 expansion tray

CodeMeaning
XX Two digit Integer value of an Optimal IOM (00-99 except 88)
FF ESM Boot Diagnostic executing
88 This ESM is being held in Reset by the other ESM
AA ESM-A application is booting up
bb ESM-B application is booting up
L0 Mismatched ESM types
L2 Persistent memory errors
L3 Persistent hardware errors
L9 Over Temperature
H1 SFP Speed Mismatch (2 Gb/s SFP installed when operating at 4 Gb/s)
H2 Invalid/Incomplete Configuration
H3 Maximum Reboot Attempts Exceeded
H4 Cannot Communicate with Other ESM
H5 Midplane Harness Failure
H6 Firmware Failure
H7 Current Enclosure Fibre Channel Rate Different than Rate Switch
H8 SFP(s) Present in Currently Unsupported Slot (2A or 2B)
H9 Non-Catastrophic HW Failure.  ESM operational, but in a degraded mode
