 Sun Fire V250 - How to Remove and Replace a Sun Fire V250 Front Fan Module

   WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED?:

Sun Fire V250 product training is desirable but not required.

   TIME ESTIMATE: 45 mins

   TASK COMPLEXITY: 1

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:
   PROBLEM OVERVIEW: Faulty Front Fan Module

   WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:

A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution.
The customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown.

   WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE?:

Front Fan Modules

There are two cooling fan modules on the front of the server, next to the hard disk drive bays. Open the door to access the fan modules.

To Remove a Front Fan Module

1. Turn server power off.

2. Open the door.

3. Ensure the server is properly grounded.

4. Loosen the retaining screw from the Fan Module to remove/replace.

5. Open the fan module handle.

6. Grip the fan module by its handle and pull the module out of the server.

To Replace a Front Fan Module

1.  Ensure server power is off.

2. Open the door.

3. Ensure the server is properly grounded.

4. Align the fan module in the empty bay.

5. Slide the fan module all the way in to its bay.

6. Tighten the retaining screw.


OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
   WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE?:

Restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
