Goal

 Sun Fire V250 - How to Remove and Replace a Sun Fire V250  DVD or Optional Tape Drive

   WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED?:

Sun Fire V250 product training is desirable but not required.

   TIME ESTIMATE: 45 mins

   TASK COMPLEXITY: 1

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:
   PROBLEM OVERVIEW: Install or Faulty DVD or Optional Tape Drive

   WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:

A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution.
The customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown.

   WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE?:

DVD-ROM Drive (Tape drive instructions below)

Caution –  The DVD-ROM drive contains a laser device. Do not attempt to open the DVD-ROM drive’s enclosure or remove a DVD-ROM drive using any procedures other than those contained in this section.

To Remove the DVD-ROM Drive

1. Check that no media is present in the DVD-ROM drive.

2. Turn server power off.

3. Open the door.

4. Ensure the server is properly grounded.

5. Unclip the DVD-ROM drive module.
 - Squeeze the two green release catches at both sides to release it.

6. Slide the DVD-ROM drive out of the slot.

7. Disconnect the power and data cables.

To Replace the DVD-ROM Drive

1. Turn server power off.

2. Open the door.

3. Ensure the server is properly grounded.

4. Connect the power and data cables to the replacement DVD-ROM drive module.

5. Slide the replacement module firmly into its slot.
 - The green tabs secure the drive when it is inserted correctly.

Tape Drive (Optional)

The tape drive is located on the server’s front panel. If it is not installed, a blanking plate is fitted in its place.

To Remove the Tape Drive

1. Check that no media is present in the tape drive.

2. Turn server power off.

3. Open the door.

4. Ensure the server is properly grounded.

5. Release the tape drive module from the server.
 - Squeeze the two green release catches at both sides to release it.

6. Slide the tape drive out of the server’s chassis.

7. Disconnect the power and data cables.

To Install a Tape Drive

1. Turn server power off.

2. Open the door.

3. Ensure the server is properly grounded.

4. Remove the blanking plate. (if installed)

5. Attach the power and data cables to the tape drive module.

6. Slide the tape drive firmly into its slot.
 - The green tabs secure the drive when it is inserted correctly.


OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
   WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE?:

Restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
