Goal

 Sun Fire V250 - How to Remove and Replace a Sun Fire V250 PCI Card

Fix

 DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
   WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED?:

Sun Fire V250 product training is desirable but not required

   TIME ESTIMATE: 30 mins

   TASK COMPLEXITY: 1

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:
   PROBLEM OVERVIEW: Install or Faulty PCI Card


   WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:

A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution.
The customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown.

   WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE?:

To Remove a PCI Card

1. Power off the server.

2. Ensure the server is properly grounded.

3. Place the server on its side.

4. Remove the service panel.

5. If removing a long PCI card, loosen the screws which secure the support for long PCI cards.
 - These are located on the base of the server.

6. Slide the support towards the back of the PCI card.

7. Unclip the PCI retainer mechanism.
 - Rotate the retaining mechanism to release the PCI cards.

8. Make a note of the slot you are about to remove the PCI card from.

9. Remove the PCI card by lifting it vertically from the PCI slot.

10. Place the PCI card on an antistatic surface or bag.

To Add a PCI Card

1. Power off the server.

2. Ensure the server is properly grounded.

3. Place the server on its side.

4. Remove the service panel.

5. Unclip the PCI retainer mechanism.
 - Rotate the retaining mechanism to release the PCI cards.

6. Place the PCI card into its slot and press it home.

7. Replace the support for long PCI cards, if necessary, and screw into place.

8. Return the PCI card retaining mechanism to its closed position.

9. Replace the service panel.


OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
   WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE?:

Restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
