FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:
   PROBLEM OVERVIEW: Faulty Memory Dimm

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:

A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution.
The customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE?:

There are four memory module sockets per processor on the server’s system board. Memory is supplied by Sun in paired DIMMS. Ensure that you use the DIMM pairs as supplied and do not mix them.

Memory Configuration Rules

Memory is shipped in matched pairs for use on the Sun Fire V250 server. Use memory only in these matched pairs - do not mix memory modules.
When you install memory, follow the configuration rules below.

- DIMMs must be identical.
- Install two DIMMs per CPU at a time.
- Maintain an equal amount of memory for each CPU.
- Use a minimum of two matched DIMMs per CPU.
- Do not mix DIMM capacities.

To Remove Memory

1. Turn server power off.

2. Remove the service panel.

3. Locate the correct DIMM socket.

4. Press down on the retention latches at the sides of the memory module.
 - This frees the module from its socket

5. Remove the memory module.

To Add Memory

1. Turn server power off.

2. Remove the service panel.

3. Locate the correct DIMM socket.

4. Open the retaining clips.

5. Press the memory module into the DIMM socket.

6. Apply even pressure to the top edge of the memory module until it clips into place and the retention latches close to secure it.

7. Replace the service panel.
