 Sun Fire V250 - How to Remove and Replace a Sun Fire V250 Power Distribution Board (PDB)

   WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED?:

Sun Fire V250 product training is desirable but not required


   TIME ESTIMATE: 60 mins

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:
   PROBLEM OVERVIEW: Faulty Power Distribution Board (PDB)


   WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:

A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution.
The customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown.


   WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE?:

The power distribution board (PDB) takes power to the server’s internal components.

To Remove the Power Distribution Board

1. Turn server power off.

2. Open the door.

3. Ensure you are properly grounded.

4. Disconnect the power and data cables from the DVD-ROM drive and tape drive (if fitted).

5. Ensure both PSU bays are empty.

6. Place the server on its side and remove the service panel.

7. Undo the two screws securing the PDB to the chassis.

8. Disconnect the power and data cables:

- 2x power from the system board
- 1x data from the SCSI backplane

9. Disconnect the wiring from the cable management bracket.

10. Remove the power distribution board and wiring harness.

To Replace the Power Distribution Board

1. Using the two locating pins at the bottom of the PDB as a guide, locate the unit in its correct position in the server.

2. Tighten the two retaining screws.

3. Reconnect all power and data cables.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
   WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE?:

Restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
