Goal

How to Remove / Replace AC/DC +5 Volt Power Supply in SL3000 Library.

These power supplies, located below the HBT cards, are numbered as listed in Table 1-5 of the Service Manual.

Solution

DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED?: CSE must be familar with SL3000 hardware.

TIME ESTIMATE: 30 minutes

TASK COMPLEXITY: 2

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:

PROBLEM OVERVIEW: 5 volt power supply has been determined to be defective and requires replacement.

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?: This power supply is hot swappable and does not require operator intervention.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE?:

Refer to the SL3000 Service Manual for complete instructions on power supply replacement.  This will have notes, warnings, and pictures to assist in the procedure.

Tools needed for this procedure:  Small Phillips secewdriver, ESD protection.

Refer to this KB for location of failed power supply: SL3000 - Power Supply Locations for BDM and DEM (Doc ID 2180266.1)

To remove this power supply:

1. Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the left screw from the defective supply.

2. Using a Phillips screwdriver, loosen the captive screw within the release lever.

3. Using the card lever, remove the supply.

To replace this power supply:

1. Using the card lever, insert and lock the new supply.

2. Using a Phillips screwdriver, insert and tighten the left screw.

3. Using a Phillips screwdriver, tighten the captive screw within the release lever.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:

Verify the Green LED is lit and the power supply status is good from the SL3000 Op Panel.

NOTE: If the new power supply has an amber fault light, check if the ECM circuit breaker is tripped.
