Goal

How to Find Firmware Update Patches and Upgrade the StorageTek SL150 Modular Tape Library With Those Firmware Patches.

Solution

Update patches for the SL150 library are listed on My Oracle Support (https://support.oracle.com/CSP/ui/flash.html).

To Find the Update Patches for the SL150 Library:

1 .Log into My Oracle Support from a Web Browser.

2. On your My Oracle Support home page click on the Patches & Updates tab.

3. Click on the Product or Family (Advanced) search link to the left on the "Patch Search" area.

4. Type in SL150 in the Input box next to Product is.  This will automatically populate the box with a couple choices for SL150.  You can choose either.

5. Click on the drop down arrow in the next box below, for 'Release' This will display different levels to choose from.  Click on the latest patch listed and then click 'Search'.

6. At the next screen click on the patch name and then Download button for the patch on the right.

Now that you have downloaded the patch you can now unzip the patch and upgrade the code on the SL150 library from its Web GUI.

 

To Upgrade the Firmware on the SL150 Library (up to 1.82 code levels):

1. Log into the SL150 library Web GUI as an admin user.

2. Click on Settings from the main menu on the left hand side of the page.

3. On the settings screen click on the Upgrade button.  A window will pop up asking if you want to continue.

4. Click on Continue.

5. Click on the Choose File button to browse for the firmware file.

Note: The SL150 library firmware file should be named something like SL150_xxxx.tar

6. Once the firmware file is chosen click on the Upgrade button.

Cation: Do not close the upgrade pop-up window during the upgrade process.

Note: You should see the Uploading % complete down in the bottom left corner of the upgrade pop up window but this will depend on what web browser you are using.

7. Once the upload is complete the upgrade pop up window will change to show a percentage for the flashing of the code to the SL150 library controller card.  When the flashing of the code is complete the Upgrade pop up window will have a Restart Now button.

8. Click on the Restart Now button and the library will reinitialize.

You now should have the latest code installed on the SL150 library. 

 

To Upgrade the Firmware on the SL150 Library (2.01 and higher code):

1. Log into the SL150 library Web GUI as an admin user.

2. Click on the "Firmware" button from the main menu on the left hand side of the page.

3. Click on the "Upgrade" button on the right hand side of the page.  A new window or tab will come up.

4. Click on the "Choose File" button to browse for the firmware file.

Note: The SL150 library firmware file should be named something like SL150_xxxx.tar

5. Once the firmware file is chosen click on the "OK" button.

Cation: Do not close the upgrade pop-up window during the upgrade process.

6. Once the firmware upgrade is complete the window will show "Complete" and that "The Library Must Be Rebooted" message and then will have a "Close" button to close that will close that window.

7. Click on the "Close" button to close out that window.

8. Back on the main SL150 Web GUI click on the power icon up in the left upper corner of the page.

9. Click on "Restart Library" from the drop down.

10. Check the box if you don't want the library to execute an audit and click "OK" and the library will reinitialize.

You now should have the latest code installed on the SL150 library.
