How to do a Factory Reset on the StorageTek SL150 Modular Tape Library

Solution

In order to do a factory reset on the SL150 library you will need 2 people.

One person will need to stand at the front of the SL150 library and one person will need to stand at the rear of the SL150 library.

Note: The SL150 library will need to be in a powered up/booted up state (the Linux kernel boot has to be complete).

The person at the front of the library will need to push and release the front locate button so that both the front and rear locate buttons are illuminated.

Then the person at the front of the SL150 will need to push and hold the locate button on the front of the SL150 library and then the person at the rear of the library will need to push and hold the locate button on the rear of the SL150 library.

The locate buttons will start to flash slowly, continue to hold in both of the locate buttons until the locate buttons start to flash quickly.

Once the locate buttons flash at a fast rate both buttons can be released and the library will do a factory reset and will reinitialize.

Note: You may have to hit the power button to power up the SL150 after the factory reset has been done if it doesn't do so automatically.

You now will have to go through the Initial Config Wizard in order to setup the SL150 library.
