DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT SKILLS ARE REQUIRED?: No special skills required, Customer Replaceable Unit (CRU) procedure

Netra CT 900 Product training recommended but not required as this is a CRU procedure. Some knowledge of network switch or networking is preferred, might need to perform data collecting and troubleshooting steps on site if the DIMM replacement did not solve the problem.

TIME ESTIMATE: 120 minutes

Task Complexity: 0

REMOVAL/REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS:

PROBLEM OVERVIEW: Switch blae or networking related problem

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

1.  TFTP server accessible by switch blade
2.  Obtain the desired version for switch firmware --- version could be obtained by "show hardware" under switch's executive mode
3.  Preserve the networking setting and backup the switch blade configuration on both BASE (3.0) and FABRIC (3.1)

WHAT ACTIONS ARE REQUIRED?:

0) Preparation --- performed by customer

1.  Verify the tftp server is accessible
2.  Verify the desired version of switch firmware is in place
3.  Perserve the following info from switch blade:
        show serviceport
        show network
4.  Follow the instruciton of "How to replace Netra CP3140/CP3240 switch blade for Netra CT900 platform/chassis" (Doc ID 1387761.1) or customer's own MOP (method of procedure) to backup the configuraiton of both BASE (3.0) and FABRIC (3.1)
5.  Label the cable appropriately

WARNING: Please be sure to review document "How to replace Netra CP3140/CP3240 switch blade for Netra CT900 platform/chassis" (Doc ID 1387761.1) and understand the steps before proceed with the replacement.

1) Remove switch blade

0.  Verify that you have taken necessary antistatic precautions
1.  Move the front cable management bracket to the lower position
2.  Disengage the card injector/ejector mechanisms at the top and bottom of the board to notify software that the board is about to be removed. Wait for the Hot-Swap LED to light
3.  Disconnect all cables connected to the switch
4.  Loosen the two board retention screws that fasten the board to the enclosure
5.  Open the ejectors fully, rotating the handles outward until the board disengages from the midplane
6.  Slide the board evenly out of the enclosure
7.

2) Install switch blade

0.  Verify that you have taken necessary antistatic precautions
1.  Locate the switch slots --- switches can be inserted only in slot 7 or slot 8 in Netra CT 900 server
2.  Move the front cable management bracket to the lower position
3.  Remove the filler panel, if necessary
4.  Prepare the switch by opening its injector/ejector handles
5.  Carefully align the edges of the board with the card guides in the slot
6.  Keeping the board aligned in the guides, slide the board in until the injector/ejector mechanisms engage the retention bar
7.  Simultaneously push in the board and rotate the injector/ejector handles to their closed positions (rotate inward) to seat the midplane connectors.
7a. If system power is on, the Hot-Swap LED should light up. The Hot-Swap LED should blink for several seconds, and then go off. If the Hot-Swap LED does not go off after several seconds, push harder on the injector/ejector handles to verify that they are pushed in all the way.
8.  Tighten the board retention screws to anchor the board in the shelf
9.  Connect the cables to the switch.

3) Configure switch blade

1.  Review "How to replace Netra CP3140/CP3240 switch blade for Netra CT900 platform/chassis" (Doc ID 1387761.1)
2.  Configure the NET MGT interface of switch blade (usually the "serviceport")
3.  Follow the steps to up/downgrade the switch firmware --- please note, this firmware up/downgrade has to be done 2 times --- one of BASE (3.0) and one for FABRIC (3.1)
4.  Restore switch configuration from tftp server

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION ARE REQUIRED TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE?:

1. Switch output of "show hardware", "show running-configuration", "show port all", "show mac-addr-all", etc should all look normal
2. Any verification methods in customer's MOP
3. Customer's monitor software reports all network activities normal
