DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT SKILLS ARE REQUIRED
No special skills required, Customer Replaceable Unit (CRU) procedure
Task Complexity: 0
TIME ESTIMATE: 60 minutes
REMOVAL/REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS:
PROBLEM OVERVIEW: FB-DIMM related problem
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
DAMAGE ALERT: Perform a visual inspection of the replacement part to make sure that there are no damaged components, connectors, bent pins, damaged packages during shipping, etc. If the part is damaged, don't install it into the system, order a new part. Handle with caution and package carefully the return part to avoid any damages during shipping.
The customer should conduct an orderly blade shutdown using "[clia] deactivate <slot #>" command from ShMM.
WHAT ACTIONS ARE REQUIRED:
0) Preparation --- performed by customer
1. Orderly shutdown the blade
1) Remove FB-DIMM
0. Verify that you have taken necessary antistatic precautions
1. Follow the steps in "How to Replace a Sun Netra Computing Blade (CP3010/3060/3260/T3-1BA) in Netra CT900 chassis" (Doc ID 1467644.1) to pull out the node blade
2. Place the blade server on an antistatic mat, or on the blade server?s antistatic bag if you do not have a mat available
3. For the FB-DIMM you wish to remove, simultaneously pull both FB-DIMM retainer clips outward from the slot
4. Grasp the FB-DIMM by the edges, and carefully pull it out of its connector --- a slight rocking motion might be required
5. Place it in an antistatic bag
6. If there is no need to install the new FB-DIMM, follow the steps in "How to Replace a Sun Netra Computing Blade (CP3010/3060/3260/T3-1BA) in Netra CT900 chassis" (Doc ID 1467644.1) to instert back the node blade
2) Install FB-DIMM
0. Verify that you have taken necessary antistatic precautions
1. Locate the FB-DIMM connectors on the blade server
2. Remove the FB-DIMM from its protective packaging, holding the module only by the edges
2a. Some connectors sit on the node blade with an angle; take extra caution when dealing witht the outer slots which might be interferred by other on-board components
3. Insert the bottom edge of the FB-DIMM into the bottom of the slot's hinge-style connector
4. Press the top edge of the FB-DIMM toward the blade server until the retainer clips click into place
5. Follow the steps in "How to Replace a Sun Netra Computing Blade (CP3010/3060/3260/T3-1BA) in Netra CT900 chassis" (Doc ID 1467644.1) to instert back the node blade
6. Power on and boot the node blade, if necessary
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
WHAT ACTIONS ARE REQUIRED TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
1. Check the OBP banner to ensure the DIMM size is correct
2. Blade boots up to OS without any problem
3. "prtdiag -v" shows all DIMM available
