Solution

DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT SKILLS ARE REQUIRED?: No special skills required, Customer Replaceable Unit (CRU) procedure 

NOTE: Some knowledge of Linux system administration is preferred, might need to perform data collecting and troubleshooting steps on site if the DIMM replacement did not solve the problem.

REMOVAL/REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS:

PROBLEM OVERVIEW: ShMM card related problem

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

1.  FTP or TFTP server accessible by the ShMM
2.  Obtain the desired version for ShMM firmware --- version could be obtained by "[clia] version"
3.  Preserve some configuraton information

WHAT ACTIONS ARE REQUIRED?:

0) Preparation --- performed by customer

1.  Verify the ftp/tftp server is accessible
2.  Verify the desired version of ShMM firmware is in place
3.  Perserve the following info as needed:
        /etc/shelfman.conf
        /etc/openhpi.conf
        Output of "[clia] getlanconfig 1"
        OUtput of "ifconfig -a"
        OUtput of "getenv"
4.  Appropriately lable cables that connect to ShMM

WARNING: Please be sure to review document "Netra CT900 ShMM replacement procedure (Doc ID 1346016.1)" and understand the steps before proceed with the replacement.

1) Remove ShMM

0.  Verify that you have taken necessary antistatic precautions
1.  Locate the slot that holds ShMM cards
1a. ShMM cards are located at the far right of the front of the shelf, in the slot to the right of node board slot 14
2.  Loosen the thumbscrew that secures ShMM card to the shelf, remove cable connecting to ShMM
3.  Determine if it is safe to remove ShMM card
3a. If system power is off or if ShMM card's blue Hot-Swap LED is on, go to Step 4
3b. If system power is on and ShMM card's blue Hot-Swap LED is off, follow these instructions to put ShMM card into a "safe" state:
    a) Partially unlatch the card?s ejector
    b) Wait for the blue Hot-Swap LED to light
4.  When the blue Hot-Swap LED is on solid, fully open the ejector handle, rotating it outward until the board disengages from the midplane
5.  Slide the card evenly out of the enclosure

2) Install ShMM

0.  Verify that you have taken necessary antistatic precautions
1.  Locate ShMM card slot
2.  Prepare ShMM card by opening its ejector handle
3.  Carefully align the edges of the board with the card guides in ShMM card slot
4.  Keeping the card aligned in the guides, slide the card in until the ejector mechanism engages the retention bar
5.  Simultaneously push in the card and rotate the ejector handle to its closed position (rotate upward) to seat the midplane connectors
6.  Tighten the thumbscrew to secure ShMM card to the shelf
7.  Make the necessary software connections to ShMM card

3) Configure ShMM

1.  Review the document "Netra CT900 ShMM replacement procedure (Doc ID 1346016.1)" on how to prepare and configure for the ShMM
2.  Follow the steps to up/downgrade ShMM firmware to the desired level
3.  follow the previous document (or customer has its own MOP [Method of Procedure]) to configure ShMM back to what it was

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTIONS ARE REQUIRED TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE?:

1. Green LED should light up --- solid GREEN is "Active"; blinking "backup"
2. Use "[clia] version" to verify it is at correct firmware level
3. Use "ifconfig -a", "getenv", "ping <in/external IP>", etc to verify the operation
4. Any verification methods in customer's MOP
