DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT SKILLS ARE REQUIRED?: No special skills required, Customer Replaceable Unit (CRU) procedure

TIME ESTIMATE: 60 minutes

REMOVAL/REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS:

PROBLEM OVERVIEW: Power or PEM related failure

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

Schedule a long period of downtime.


WHAT ACTIONS ARE REQUIRED?:

0) Preparation --- performed by customer

1.  Find an licenced electrician to work on DC power source
2.  Disconnect the DC power source that connects to to-be-replaced PEM

1) Remove PEM

CAUTION: PEM maintenance should be performed only by trained personnel. When the system is plugged in, energy hazards are present on the midplane. Do not reach into the enclosure. Energy hazards are also present on the terminal block of PEM if the DC power is on.

0.  Verify that you have taken necessary antistatic precautions
1.  Go to the rear of the shelf and locate PEM that to be removed
1a. If the red Failure LED is lit on PEM that teo be removed, go to Step 3
1b. If the red Failure LED is not lit on PEM that to be removed, go to Step 2
2.  Press the Hot-Swap button on PEM that to be removed
2a. If the blue Hot-Swap LED flashes for a moment, and then lights up to a solid blue, PEM is okay to remove. Go to Step 3
2b. If the blue Hot-Swap LED continues to flash and does not light up to a solid blue after pressing the Hot-Swap button, follows in "CT900 Service Manual" to examine the other PEM
3.  Disconnect power from the DC power source going into PEM that to be removed
3a. Do not continue to the next step in these procedures without removing power from the DC power source for PEM that to be removed
4.  Loosen the two captive thumbscrews that secure the terminal block cover onto PEM
5.  Remove the terminal block cover from PEM
6.  Disconnect the cables from the terminal posts on PEM
7.  Loosen the two captive screws that secure PEM to the shelf
8.  Use the handle at the bottom of PEM to pull PEM free from the shelf

2) Install PEM

0.  Verify that you have taken necessary antistatic precautions
1.  Slide PEM into the shelf and press firmly to seat the connector
2.  Secure PEM to the shelf using the two thumbscrews
3.  Connect the cables to the terminal posts on PEM
4.  Replace the terminal block cover over the terminal posts and secure the cover to PEM using the two captive screws
5.  Connect power going into PEM from the DC power source


OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTIONS ARE REQUIRED TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE?:

1.  PEM Green LED lights up and SOLID
2.  Use "[clia] getfruledstate 20 [6|7]" command to verify PEM LED status
