FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS
PROBLEM OVERVIEW: SAP or ShMM console related failure
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
Schedule a long period of downtime. It is necessary to shut down the chassis because this part is only cold-swappable.
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
0) Preparation --- performed by customer
1. Find an licenced electrician to work on DC power source
2. Label the cables connecting to the SAP correctly
1) Remove SAP
0. Verify that you have taken necessary antistatic precautions
1. Turn off the system and disconnect it from power
1a. Disconnect power from the DC power source for both feeds (perform by customer techanician on-site)
1b. Go to the rear of the shelf and remove the two captive thumbscrews that secure the terminal block cover over each PEM (power entry module)
1c. Remove PEM covers from the rear of the shelf
1e. Remove the cables from the terminal posts on each PEM
2. Locate SAP
2a. The shelf alarm panel (SAP) is a removable module mounted at the upper right side of the shelf, above slots 9 through 14 in the shelf
3. Disconnect all cables connected to SAP
4. Loosen the two screws that secure SAP to the shelf
5. Slide SAP evenly out of the enclosure
5a. NOTE: that a portion of SAP extends to the left, behind the sheet metal on the shelf, so you must pull the right side of SAP out first to remove SAP from the shelf
2) Install SAP
0. Verify that you have taken necessary antistatic precautions
1. Insert SAP into its slot
2. Tighten the two screws that secure SAP to the shelf
3. Connect all cables to SAP
4. Reconnect the system to power and turn it on
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
1. Able to access the console port to both ShMM (top and bottom)
2. Use the "[clia] alarm [minor|major|critical|clear]" command to verify alarm LED works
3. Power on computing blades and boot OS/application back to operation
