Goal

LTO - Tape Drive Not Seen by Server or Software Application

Fix

If a server or backup application cannot find the tape drive, you perform the following steps:

1.Check that the drive has power.
2.Check that the SCSI/SAS cables are connected, that the cable length limits are not exceeded, and that the cables are of excellent quality.
3.Check that the drive’s SCSI ID is unique on its SCSI bus.
4.Check that the HBA is supported and is installed properly.
5.Check that the tape driver is installed.

Note: Some software require their own driver instead of the HP or IBM tape driver.

6.Ensure the backup application is supported, is configured correctly, and is upgraded to the latest version.
