REMOVAL/REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS

PROBLEM OVERVIEW: SP failure

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

Shut Down the Oracle Solaris OS
Prepare the Server Module for Removal
Remove the Server Module From the Modular System
Remove the Cover
ESD Safety Measures

WHAT ACTIONS ARE REQUIRED:

Note: If the system is using OVM (LDOMs) back up the LDOM configuration per doc 1019720.1 to prevent loss of LDOMs configuration data and to recover LDOMs environment after replacement.

Remove Service Processor

1. Lift up on the card ejector lever

2. Slide the service processor out of the standoff bracket that holds the end of the service processor opposite the card connector.

3. Flip the service processor card over and place it on an antistatic mat.

4. Remove the system configuration PROM (NVRAM) from the service processor card and place the PROM on an antistatic mat.


Install Service Processor

1. Remove the replacement service processor from the package and place it on an antistatic mat.

2. Install the system configuration PROM that you removed from the faulty service processor.
    The PROM is keyed to ensure proper orientation.

3. Insert the service processor edge into the bracket and carefully align the service processor so that each of its contacts is centered on a socket pin.

4. Push both rubber buttons firmly and evenly until the service processor is firmly seated in the connector socket.

5. Return the server module to operation.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTIONS ARE REQUIRED TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Boot system and monitor boot sequence for errors. Test functionality of system:
1. Run the Solaris "fmadm faulty" and SP/ILOM "show faulty" command (if only ALOM is supported run "showfaults -v" command) to verify that the fault has been cleared.
2. Perform one of the following tasks based on your verification results:
   * If the previous steps did not clear the fault, refer to doc 1004229.1 for information about the tools and methods you can use to diagnose and clear
     component faults.
   * If the previous steps indicate that no faults have been detected, the component has been replaced successfully. No further action is required
3. Restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
