FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS (customer is not authorized to use service mode)
PROBLEM OVERVIEW: Power Distribution Board Failure
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?
Customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown. Power down system and disconnect Power Cord, Remove Right Side Panel, Remove Left Side Panel, Avoid Electrostatic Discharge, Remove a Power Supply and Remove Disk Fan Tray Assembly. Also note chassis serial number and server part number, printed on a label located on side of chassis.
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
Remove Power Distribution Board:
1. Remove the Top Cover
2. Remove the Memory Mezzanine Assembly
3. Remove the PCI Mezzanine Assembly
4. Remove the System Fan Assembly (Fan Tray 0)
5. Remove the Optical Media Drive
6. Disconnect the optical media ribbon cable and the PDB cable connected to the motherboard in between the FB-DIMM slots
7. Loosen the screws that secure the motherboard assembly to the chassis
8. Lift slightly and slide the motherboard 1 inch (25 mm) toward the front of the server.
9. Tilt the end of the motherboard (closest to the front of the server) upward.
10. Lift the motherboard out of the server chassis and place it on an antistatic mat.
11. Remove the 8 screws that secure the power board to the chassis & remove it.
Install Power Distribution Board:
1. Lower the power distribution board into the chassis, aligning the board’s holes with the standoffs in the chassis, & insert the 8 screws.
2. Lower the motherboard's end closest the rear of the server.2. Carefully slide the motherboard 1 inch (25 mm) toward the rear of the server, seating it into place
3. Align the motherboard assembly screw holes over the chassis standoffs.
4. Tighten the screws that attach the motherboard to the chassis
5. Reconnect the motherboard cables
6. Install the Optical Media Drive

WHAT ACTION DOES THE FE/CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Boot system and monitor boot sequence for errors. Test functionality of system:
1. Run the Solaris "fmadm faulty" and SP/ILOM "show faulty" command (if only ALOM is supported run "showfaults -v" command) to verify that the fault has been cleared.
2. Perform one of the following tasks based on your verification results:
* If the previous steps did not clear the fault, refer to doc 1004229.1 for information about the tools and methods you can use to diagnose and clear component faults.
* If the previous steps indicate that no faults have been detected, then the component has been replaced successfully. No further action is required
3. Restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
