FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS
PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
Disk drive backplane replacement.
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
Full verified backups of all data and operating systems potentially affected by service activities
The system needs to be shut down and powered off with power cables disconnected.
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
Follow standard ESD precautions.
Remove the disk backplane:
1. Remove the Top Cover
2. Remove all Hard Drives but ensure that a note is kept on their positions for reassembly.
3. Remove the PCI Mezzanine Assembly
4. Remove the Memory Mezzanine Assembly
5. Remove the System Fan Assembly (Fan Tray 0)
6. Disconnect the optical media ribbon cable and the PDB cable connected to the motherboard in between the FB-DIMM slots
7. Loosen the screws that secure the motherboard assembly to the chassis
8. Lift slightly and slide the motherboard 1 inch (25 mm) toward the front of the server.
9. Tilt the end of the motherboard (closest to the front of the server) upward.
10. Lift the motherboard out of the server chassis and place it on an antistatic mat.
11. Remove SAS cable from SAS Expander, loosen green screw, & then slide rearward to remove it.
12. Remove the disk fan tray (FT1).
13. Remove the 2 ribbon cables from the disk backplane, unloosen the 3 green captive screws, then slide the backplane up to remove.
Install the disk backplane:

WHAT ACTION DOES THE FE/CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Poweron, boot system and monitor boot sequence for errors. Test functionality of system:
1. Run the Solaris "fmadm faulty" and SP/ILOM "show faulty" command (if only ALOM is supported run "showfaults -v" command) to verify that the fault has been cleared.
2. Perform one of the following tasks based on your verification results:
* If the previous steps did not clear the fault, refer to doc 1004229.1 for information about the tools and methods you can use to diagnose and clear component faults.
* If the previous steps indicate that no faults have been detected, then the component has been replaced successfully. No further action is required
3. Restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
