DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT SKILLS ARE REQUIRED?: No special skills required, Customer Replaceable Unit (CRU) procedure
TIME ESTIMATE: 30 minutes
TASK COMPLEXITY: 0
REMOVAL/REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS:
PROBLEM OVERVIEW: failed SPARC T4-1B/Netra SPARC T4-1B system battery
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
DAMAGE ALERT: Perform a visual inspection of the replacement part to make sure that there are no damaged components, connectors, bent pins, damaged packages during shipping, etc. If the part is damaged, don't install it into the system, order a new part. Handle with caution and package carefully the return part to avoid any damages during shipping.
Prepare for service by performing the following tasks:
Shut Down the Oracle Solaris OS
Prepare the Server Module for Removal
Remove the Server Module From the Modular System
Remove the Cover
ESD Safety Measures
WHAT ACTIONS ARE REQUIRED?:
1. If you need more clearance, remove the DIMM in slot CMP0/BOB3/CH1/D0 (nearest the battery).
2. Push the top of the battery forward, then lift the battery from the holder
3. Install the replacement battery with the negative (-) side facing the nearby DIMM slot CMP0/BOB3/CH1/D0.
4. (If removed) Replace the DIMM in CMP0/BOB3/CH1/D0.
5. Return the server module to operation.
6. Use an Oracle ILOM command to set the clock’s day and time.
For example:
-> set /SP/clock datetime=061716192012
-> show /SP/clock
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
WHAT ACTIONS ARE REQUIRED TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE?::
Boot system and monitor boot sequence for errors. Test functionality of system. Restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
