WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:
Netra T4-2 product and field service training.

Time Estimate: 120 minutes

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

PROBLEM OVERVIEW: Netra T4-2 Server, Disk Backplane replacing.

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

DAMAGE ALERT: Perform a visual inspection of the replacement part to make sure that there are no damaged components, connectors, bent pins, damaged packages during shipping, etc. If the part is damaged, don't install it into the system, order a new part. Handle with caution and package carefully the return part to avoid any damages during shipping.

1. Prepare for servicing:
a. Attach an antistatic wrist strap.
b. Power off the server and unplug power cords from the power supplies.
c. Remove the server from the rack.
d. Remove the top cover.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

Remove the Hard Disk Drive Backplane

1. Remove the power supplies.

2. Remove the rear fan module.

3. Remove the front fan modules.

4. Remove the hard drives.
NOTE: Note the positions of the disks so you can return them to the correct slots.

5. Remove the DVD drive.

6. Remove the PCIe2 cards.
NOTE: If the disk packplane SAS cables are connected to a RAID controller card, please note their positions!!!

7. Remove the memory risers.

8. Remove the subchassis.

9. Remove the motherboard.
NOTE: If the disk packplane SAS cables are connected to the motherboard, please note their positions!!!

10. Remove the power distribution board.

11. Disconnect the cables from the hard drive backplane.

12. Remove the five screws from the hard drive backplane.

13. Lift the hard drive backplane out of the chassis.


Install the Hard Disk Drive Backplane

1. Bring the hard drive backplane and the power distribution board together.

2. Position the hard drive backplane over the location where it installs into the chassis. The bracket of the hard drive backplane is up and points toward the front of the chassis.

3. Lower the hard drive backplane and power distribution board into the chassis, aligning the screw holes.

4. Install the five screws into the hard drive backplane.

5. Connect the cables to the hard drive backplane and to the power distribution board.

6. Install the power distribution board.

7. Install the motherboard.

8. Install the subchassis.

9. Install the memory risers.

10. Install the PCIe2 cards.

11. Install the DVD drive.

12. Install the hard drives.

13. Install the front fan modules.

14. Install the rear fan module.

15. Install the power supplies.

16. Return the server to operation:
a. Install the top cover.
b. Return the server to the normal rack position.
c. Power on the server.

NOTE: The product serial number used for service entitlement and warranty coverage might need to be reprogrammed on the disk backplane by authorized service personnel with the correct product serial number located on the chassis EZ label.


OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE



WHAT ACTION DOES THE FE/CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Boot system and monitor boot sequence for errors. Test functionality of system:
1. Run the Solaris "fmadm faulty" and SP/ILOM "show faulty" command (if only ALOM is supported run "showfaults -v" command) to verify that the fault has been cleared.
2. Perform one of the following tasks based on your verification results:
   * If the previous steps did not clear the fault, refer to doc 1004229.1 for information about the tools and methods you can use to diagnose and clear
     component faults.
   * If the previous steps indicate that no faults have been detected, the component has been replaced successfully. No further action is required
3. Restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
