FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

PROBLEM OVERVIEW: Signal Interface board failure

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
Shut down system and Power down the server.

DAMAGE ALERT: Perform a visual inspection of the replacement part to make sure that there are no damaged components, connectors, bent pins, damaged packages during shipping, etc. If the part is damaged, don't install it into the system, order a new part. Handle with caution and package carefully the return part to avoid any damages during shipping.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

A. Remove the Signal Interface board:

1. Remove the top cover

2. Remove the fan module on the far right.

3. Remove the hard drive fan.

4. Remove the DVD tray.

5. Remove the signal cable from the hard drive backplane and remove all cables from the signal interface board

6. Remove the two screws that secure the signal interface board to the chassis.

7. Remove the two screws from each bus bar of the signal interface board.

8. Tilt the signal interface board in toward the center of the chassis, and lift the board in that direction out of the chassis

B. Install the Signal Interface board:

1. Align the signal interface board to the location where it installs into the chassis. The bus bars are toward the center of the chassis, with the red bus bar toward the front of the chassis.

2. Lower the signal interface board into the chassis

3. Loosely install the two screws that secure the signal interface board to the chassis.

4. Install and tighten the four bus bar screws and tighten the two screws securing the signal interface board to the chassis. Ensure that the bus bar screws are securely tightened.

5. Attach all cables to the signal interface board and attach the signal cable to the hard drive backplane

6. Install the DVD tray.

7. Install the hard drive fan.

8. Install the right most fan.

9. Install the top cover

10. Review doc 1280913.1 to update Top Level Identifier (TLI) information

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER?ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Turn on the system and verify functionality.
