Goal

This document provides the procedure to add or remove Logzilla to an "existing" pool on a Sun ZFS 7000 storage

Solution

Slot Location

Find below the Logzilla slot location for different Expansion Units :

DE2-24P / DE2-24C / Sun Disk Shelf(DS2) : Up to four Logzilla SSDs are supported per disk shelf. Logzilla SSDs should be populated in order of slots 20, 21, 22, and 23.
J4410 : Up to four Logzilla SSDs are supported per disk shelf. Logzilla SSDs should be populated in order of slots 20, 21, 22, and 23.
J4400 : Up to four Logzilla SSDs are supported per disk shelf. Logzilla SSDs should be populated in order of slots 8, 4, 16, and 20

 Adding Logzilla :

 Steps:

   From BUI:

 1.  Go to "Configuration > Storage" .

      From the list of available pool press "Add" corresponding to the pool where you want to add new disk.

 Add Logzilla

2.   Next screen will be "Verify and add devices"

      Here you need to select the number of disks.

      For the purpose of adding Logzilla select Data=0, LOG=n .

       You can select CACHE=m in case you want to add cache disk.

      where n,m is the number of disks.

      And press "Commit" to accept the changes.

   select number of disks

3.  Select the profile

   For Logzilla you can select Log Profile as Stripe or Mirror and commit the changes.

    select profile

  From CLI:

7000:configuration storage> add

7000:configuration storage verify> get

0 = custom
0-cache = 2
1 = custom
1-data = 18
1-log = 2
2 = custom
2-data = 24

7000:configuration storage verify> set 0-cache=0
0-cache = 0
7000:configuration storage verify> set 1-data=0
1-data = 0
7000:configuration storage verify> set 2-data=0
2-data = 0
7000:configuration storage verify> set 1-log=2
1-log = 2

7000:configuration storage verify> get

0 = custom
0-cache = 0
1 = custom
1-data = 0
1-log = 2
2 = custom
2-data = 0

7000:configuration storage verify> done

Check the Log Profile and change it if needed :

7000:configuration storage config> show

                      PROFILE CAPCTY NSPF DESCRIPTION
log_profile = log_mirror   17G    no    Mirrored log
                   log_stripe   34G    no    Striped log

log_profile will be set to a default optimal value depending on the number of disks selected.

But you can change the profile using set command in CLI to log_stripe or log_mirror

7000:configuration storage config> done

7000:configuration storage> show
Properties:
pool = M1
status = online
owner = 7000
profile = mirror
log_profile = log_mirror
cache_profile = -
scrub = none requested

Removing Logzilla :

Note: Logzilla removal is support in later appliance firmware OS8.6.2 / (2013.1.6.2) or above.

 Do not perform a pool configuration operation while a disk firmware upgrade is occurring.
To check if an upgrade is in progress, navigate to Maintenance > System.

1. Go to Configuration > Storage.
2. From the Available Pools list, select an online pool from which to remove the device.
3. Click REMOVE.
4. Select the number of log and cache devices to be removed from the storage pool.
Note - If the log devices use a mirrored profile, a message reminds you to select an even number of log devices to remove.
If they use a striped profile, you may remove an even or odd number of devices.
5. Click COMMIT.
