The purpose of this document is to outline the steps required to replace a Slammer Power Supply using Guided Maintenance on a Pillar Axiom Storage System

Solution

DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED: An understanding of Guided Maintenance in R4 and R5.
TIME ESTIMATE: 30 minutes
TASK COMPLEXITY: 0
FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS: Log onto the Axiom GUI/Client to access Guided Maintenance
PROBLEM OVERVIEW: This action plan is to instruct you on how to remove and replace a failed Slammer Power Supply.

 WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?: The FRU can be Failed/Warning status
 WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE:

NOTE: Please refer to <Document 1535352.1> "Pillar Axiom: How to Disable Call Home to Prevent Automatic Service Request ASR Generation" before proceeding with the procedure below.

After system is prepared, Guided Maintenance displays a completion message and enables Next button.

Remove Slammer Power Supply.

1. After Guided Maintenance enables Next button, click on Next Button.

Important! Do Not remove the power cord from the other power supply

2. When Guided Maintenance Prompts you, remove power cord from target Power Supply.

3. Slide Power Supply’s release tab to the left and pull the loop to disengage the Power Supply from the chassis.

4. Slide Power Supply out of chassis and set it safely aside.

Caution! Do Not insert any instruments or tools into the open slot. Voltage is still present from partner power supply.

Insert Slammer Power Supply

1. Slide replacement Power Supply into Slammer chassis push firmly into place to engage it with the mid-plane.

Important! Be sure to install Power Supply with Red Release tab in lower right corner. When Power Supply is seated correctly the release tab will lock into place.

2. In Guided Maintenance click on Next button.

3. When prompted, attach power cord to target Power Supply.

4. On the Verify page (choose one of these options)

Click Finish button, when Guided Maintenance enables it.
If Guided Maintenance displays a verification failed message.(choose one of these)
Click Try Again button and re-seat FRU.
If 2nd attempt is successful, click Next button.

5. Review the status of the replacement to confirm it is in Normal status.
   
   

6. If applies, reactivate ASR.
   
   

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE: Complete guided maintenance
PARTS NOTE: Return the parts if requested by Support/Engineering via the CPAS system. Otherwise dispose of replaced parts as normal.
