REMOVAL/REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS

PROBLEM OVERVIEW: failed RAID Expansion Module (REM)

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

DAMAGE ALERT: Perform a visual inspection of the replacement part to make sure that there are no damaged components, connectors, bent pins, damaged packages during shipping, etc. If the part is damaged, don't install it into the system, order a new part. Handle with caution and package carefully the return part to avoid any damages during shipping.

ESD Safety Measures

WHAT ACTIONS ARE REQUIRED:

Remove a REM

1. Lift up on the REM lever.
2. Rotate the card up and off the retainer.
3. Set the card on an antistatic surface.

Install a REM

1. Align the REM for installation.
2. Slide the end of the REM that is opposite the connector under the tabs of the plastic standoff.
3. Press the REM until the connector is fully seated on the motherboard.
If there is a rubber bumper on the REM, you can press down on it directly to seat the connector.
4. Return the server module to operation.
5. Configure or verify the RAID after installing the REM.

NOTE: When replacing a system board or REM card on T3 or T4 systems, certain procedures will need to be followed if on board hardware raid volumes are configured. Re-activate any RAID volumes that existed prior to replacing the motherboard. Only perform this task if your system had RAID volumes prior to replacing the motherboard. For details refer to doc 1387771.1.
