How to Remove / Replace AEM Drive Motor Assembly in SL3000 Library.
Solution
DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
- WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED:
Familiar with the SL3000 Library Hardware
- TIME ESTIMATE: 60 minutes
- TASK COMPLEXITY: 2
FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:
- PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
AEM Service Safety Door is not functional. Motor has been determined to be defective.
- WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE
RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:
Have the operator issue the command to take the library offline.
- WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE:
Refer to the SL3000 Service Manual for complete instructions on R/R of the AEM Drive Motor Assembly.

Drive Motor Assembly, Safety Door Removal:
1. Open the access door.
2. Disconnect the motor's power/signal connector.
3. Loosen - but do NOT remove - the two T25 screws.
4. Push on the spring tensioning lever to remove tension on the belt.
5. Slide the belt to the left side, releasing it from the geared shaft.
6. Remove the two screws that mount the motor.
7. Remove the motor.
Drive Motor Assembly, Safety Door Replacement:
1. Slide the belt to the right to align with the gear on the shaft.
2. Insert the replacement motor so that its geared shaft meshes with the drive belt.
3. Loosely insert the two mounting screws for the motor.
4. Press down on the motor and press the lever to establish belt tension between the motor's shaft and the
geared shaft.
5. Tighten the two motor mounting screws.
6. Connect the motor power/signal connector.
7. Close the access door to the AEM.
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
- WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Have the operator issue the command to place the library online.
Verify the operation of the AEM access door.
