DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
- WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:
Training and experience with Oracle ZFS Storage ZS3-4 Or Sun Storage 7000 Series hardware and Appliance software
General Sun X64 X4140/X4270/X4240/X4440/X4540 and Sun Fire[tm] X4470 M2 Server HW knowledge

- PROBLEM OVERVIEW
What: The disk backplane
Where: < Chassis S/N of the device to be inserted here by SR owner>
Why : <why is it being replaced to be inserted here by SR owner>
REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?
In Single Head configurations the NAS will need to be powered off
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
1. Locate the NAS in question
2. Take ESD Precautions.
3. Check the back plane part numbers for the appropriate system in the System Handbook and re-confirm.
4. Remove Disk Backplane as follows and refer to the X4140/X4270/X4240/X4440/X4540 and Sun Fire[tm] X4470 M2 Server Service Manual.
* Remove All Disks,filler panels and DVD drive noting the order of Disks.
* Remove the screws securing the disk backplane to the storage drive cage.
* Remove the storage drive cage.
* Slide the backplane down and off the storage drive cage retention hooks.
* Place the disk backplane on an antistatic mat
5.0 Installing the Disk Drive Backplane
* Slide the backplane under the retention hooks on the storage drive cage.
* Install the screws that secure the backplane to the hard drive cage.
The sequence is top left, top right, bottom left, bottom right.
* Install the storage drive cage.
* Install the storage drives and the DVD/USB drive. Re-insert all the Disks,filler panels and
DVD drive in order of removal.
6. Verify the replacement as per section below;
WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO
AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
In single head configurations that any faults are marked repaired after the NAS is booted up and for Cluster similar once the stripped head is up and before services failed back.
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE : Liaise with customer that replacing disk back plane part has resolved the problem.
PARTS NOTE:
Please refer to the FE handbook for all Disk Backplane part number for conformation of correct type.
