Solution
DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
- WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:
Training and experience with Oracle ZFS Storage ZS3 Or Sun Storage 7000 Series hardware and Cluster software
General Sun X64 servers HW knowledge
- TIME ESTIMATE: 60 minutes
- TASK COMPLEXITY: 2
- PROBLEM OVERVIEW
What: The Power Distribution Board
Where: Chassis S/N: , Slot No. of the device to be inserted here by SR owner
Why : why is it being replaced? to be inserted here by SR owner
REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?
The NAS will need to be powered off completely.
NOTE 1: For Cluster systems the resources must be on the other node as per this node being powered off.
NOTE 2: For Clustered Systems
It is MANDATORY NOW THAT YOU UNPLUG THE CLUSTRON CABLES (UART0 and UART1 ) and take notice that these cables are crossover connected.
THEY WILL NEED TO BE REPLUGGED IN THE SAME WAY AFTER THE HW REPLACEMENT ACTION HAS BEEN COMPLETED.
NOTE 3: The server supplies power to the power distribution board even when the server is powered off. To avoid personal injury or damage to the server, you must disconnect the power cords before servicing the power distribution board.
NOTE 4: The PDU is a primary container for the chassis serial number. Additional manual service procedures are required. Rather than repeat the detailed steps here, you should read and understand the documents:
How to update product serial number on systems which implement Top Level Identifier functionality (Doc ID 1280913.1)
For Oracle ZFS Storage ZS3 0r 7x20 : How to access service mode and escalation mode on ILOM 3.x and later platforms (Doc ID 1019946.1)
For Oracle ZFS Storage ZS3 Or 7x20 : The first document/procedure will also require access to the ILOM Password Generator. Passwords are valid for 48 hours and can be generated for a specific time in the future. Please ensure you read these two documents and have an appropriate ILOM password ahead of time if changing a primary container.
################################
NOTE TO ORACLE PARTNER ENGINEERS
################################
Please contact the TSC via a partner SR to obtain a service password to update the Serial Number, as partners cannot view the procedure to obtain these passwords.
################################
For All : When the SP boots, you will see something like:
Error: Product Identification data is missing. Product IDs will be set to unknown. Service must update all containers.
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
It is expected that as all PDUs are Field Replacable units that a trained Oracle Feild representative or the Partner equivalent with access to the appropriate manuals will fit these parts.
1. Locate the the Power Distribution Board.
2. Take ESD Precautions.
3. Check the Power Distribution Board part numbers for the appropriate system in the System Handbook and
re-confirm.
4. Remove the Power Distribution Board as per the Netra X3-2 Server/ X4140/X4270/X4240/X4440/X4540 Service Manual.
5. Install the new Power Distribution Board as per the Netra X3-2 Server/ X4140/X4270/X4240/X4440/X4540 Service Manual.
6. Verify the replacement as per section below;
Verify that the AC Present LED is lit.
WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO
AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Boot the NAS and confirm there are no faults reported in the appliance BUI. Mark "Repaired" any prior faults related to device.
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE : Liaise with customer that replacing Power Distribution Board has resolved the problem.
PARTS NOTE:
Please refer to the FE handbook for all PDU part numbers for conformation of correct type.
