Goal

How to replace an electronics module fan in a library.

Solution

DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
- WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED:
Need to be familiar with the StorageTek L-Series Library.

- TIME ESTIMATE: 60 Min.

- TASK COMPLEXITY: 2

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:
- PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
Fan is defective and requires replacement.

- WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE
RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:
Stop all work to library and tape drives. Vary the drive's and library offline to the OS and the application.

Fan Tray Assembly Removal
1. Review the information in “Before Beginning” on page 6-2.
2. Power off the library by pressing down on the power switch.
3. If the library has a SCSI configuration, open the lower cable clamp and release the library SCSI Y
cable.
4. Using a T-25 Torx bit, remove the 13 screws (8 on the front cover and 5 along the side).
5. Use the handle to gently pull the compartment completely out until the buttons in the top and
bottom slides lock into place.
6. Use a T-15 Torx bit to remove the two fan tray screws.
7. Pull the fan tray assembly out from the frame.

Fan Tray Assembly Replacement
1. Slide the new fan tray assembly into the frame and install the two fan tray screws.
2. Power on the library by lifting up the power switch.
Listen to make sure that the fans are operating, then power off the library.
3. Press in the top and bottom buttons and gently push in the compartment.
4. Reinstall the 13 screws (8 on the front cover and 5 along the left side).
5. If the library has a SCSI configuration, replace the SCSI Y cable loop in the lower cable clamp and
close the clamp.
6. Go to “Restoring Operation” on page 6-157.


OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
- WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Bring the library back online to the OS and the application.
