PROBLEM OVERVIEW
What: Replace a Sun ZFS Storage Appliance 7000 PCI Riser Board.
Where: [Chassis S/N: , Slot No of the PCI raiser board should be inserted by TSC].
Why : PCI raiser board has been reported failed or faulted by the appliance
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
The affected appliance head should be powered off and AC power cords should be disconnected.
In case of clustered system, the resources should be moved to the partner head before powering off the affected head.
WHAT ACTIONS ARE REQUIRED?:
Note: 7210 and 7420 does not contain PCI Riser Boards
1. Prepare the server for service:
* Shutdown the appliance and disconnect the power cord (or cords) from the power supply (or supplies).
Note: In case of clustered system, move the resources to the partner head using the Take-over/Fail-back option in BUI-Configuration-Cluster, before powering off.
* Remove the appliance from the rack.
* Attach an antistatic wrist strap.
* Remove the top cover.
2. Disconnect any data cables connected to the cards on the PCIe riser card being removed. Label the cables to ensure proper connection later.
3. Remove the back panel PCI crossbar:
* Loosen the two captive Phillips screws on the end of the PCI crossbar.
* Lift the PCI crossbar up and back to remove it from the chassis.
4. Remove the PCIe riser from the system:
* Loosen the captive screw holding the riser to the motherboard.
* Lift up the riser and any PCIe cards that are attached to it as a unit.
Installing PCI Riser
5. Lower the PCIe riser and any cards attached to it into the system: Slide the back of the riser into the motherboard back panel stiffener.
6. Tighten the screw that secures the riser to the motherboard.
7. Install the back panel PCI crossbar:
* Slide the crossbar down over the PCIe risers.
* Secure the PCI crossbar to the chassis with two captive Phillips screws.
8. Return system to operational state
* Install the top cover.
* Ensure covers are secure and reinstall the appliance back in its original rack location.
* Reconnect power cord(s) and power on appliance.
* Verify AC Present LED is lit.
* Confirm appliance boots and BUI is available.
NOTE: When clustered ensure head rejoins cluster perform fail-back as required.
WHAT ACTIONS ARE REQUIRED TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE?:
Confirm there are no faults reported in the appliance BUI. Mark Repaired" any prior faults related to PCI Riser Board.
Check both BUI /CLI access and client data access.
