Goal
What is Procedure to perform below tasks with HP LTT GUI ?
HP LTO FUP Tape creation.
HP LTO Drive FW update using FUP Tape.
Convert FUP Tape back to Data Tape.
Code update tape.
Creating a code tape.
Solution
Requirements:
HP LTT should installed on host or FE laptop & Drives are detected in HP LTT.
HP LTO Tape Drive - Accessing HP LTO Library and Tape Test Diagnostic Tool (Doc ID 1014570.1)
Steps:
1. Start HP LTT program & select a LTO Drive for for FUP Tape creation. Run a rescan if drives not
visible.
2. Select the UTILITY icon form menu bar. Verify the Check box is Ticked against the selected LTO Drive
3. From UTILITY GROUP drop down, choose the "firmware tape creator" option.
4. Follow the text provided in description box to setup firmware.frm file.
5. Load a blank LTO tape into the drive and press the start utility button. When finished, media would be
ejected which is now FUP Tape.
Watch On screen messages for any warnings or errors.
To Upgrade Drives using FUP Tape:
Insert the FUP tape into the drive to be updated.
It will read the FUP tape and the drive will go into update mode and the firmware will be updated automatically.
Wait until the tape has been ejected. Refer drive specific documentation for more details.
NOTES:
1. FUP Tape FW update is not a preferred method. Use other option like SCSI Tool Box, HP LTT &
tload when possible.
2. There is a possibility of Customer mistaking it with Data Tapes and if loaded into wrong drive, it could
lead to failures.
3. Once done with usage it's better to revert FUP tape back to Data Tape.
To convert a LTO FUP Tape back to Data Tape:
Use "LTO Firmware to Data Tape Convertor" option from "Utility Group" & follow onscreen instructions.
