Replace the Power Supply (PSU) on a Sun Netra 6000 Modular System

Solution

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:

- WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE
RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:
You can remove and replace a power supply from a powered-off system or from a powered-on system using a hot-swap procedure.

Caution - Do not leave a power supply slot empty. Power supplies have integrated fans that continue to supply cooling air even when the power supply is off.

Note - For AC systems, ensure that you install the AC power supply supported for the modular system that you have. See "Differences Between Chassis Models and Their Replacement Components" on page 16 of the Service Manual (you can find it at https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E19945-01/) for more information.

- WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE:

Remove a Power Supply (DC)

Caution - You must replace the power supply within one minute to ensure proper system cooling and operation, or you must power off the chassis.

Caution - You should keep three power supplies in the chassis at all times to supply adequate power.

1. Unscrew the green captive screw.
2. Lower the power supply handle.
3. Pull the power supply out and support the weight of the power supply with your other hand.

Install a Power Supply (DC)

Note - Wait for all LED indicators on the power supply to be extinguished before reinstalling the power supply. If you do not follow this procedure, the system might log a false power supply fault condition.

1. Align the power supply so that the power supply LEDs are oriented to the left.
2. Pull the power supply handle out and away from the power supply.
3. Slide the power supply into the slot until the power supply engages with the internal connectors.
4. Push the handle back towards the power supply until the power supply is fully inserted.
6. Screw in the retention screw with a No. 2 Phillips screwdriver.

Remove a Power Supply (AC)

Caution - You must replace the power supply within one minute to ensure proper system cooling and operation, or you must power off the chassis.

1. Press and hold the green button on top of the power supply handle frame.
2. Rotate the power supply handle away from the power supply and down.
3. Pull the power supply out of the chassis approximately 10 cm (4 in.).
4. While supporting the bottom of the power supply with your both hands, pull the power supply all the way out of the chassis.

Caution - Remove only one power supply at a time. One power supply must be in the system at all times to supply power to the system.

Install a Power Supply (AC)

Note - Ensure that the power supply is facing up and the five LED holes appear on the left when installing the power supply.

1. Pull the power supply handle out and away from the power supply.
2. Slide the power supply into the power supply slot until the unit engages with the internal connectors.
3. Push the power supply handle back towards the power supply until it clicks into place.
