Goal

This document explains steps to identify "target" CHAP name and parameters on the ZFS Storage Appliance (ZFSSA.)

Solution

The initiator CHAP name and secret needs to be correctly set to allow the initiator host to be authenticated by the ZFSSA.

Also the target definition has an interface name shown in the configuration. This is the network datalink that ZFSSA uses to "listen" to iSCSI requests from the initiator.

The target has to have the correct datalink name set up to listen to the requests from the initiator host.

Follow the steps below to identify target IQN and CHAP name.

1. Log on to the appliance CLI:

solaris$ ssh -l root 192.168.150.21

2. Check CHAP name.

The CHAP secret will be displayed as **** as for security.
There is no way of extracting the CHAP secret thus it must be set again if the secret has been forgotten.

Note that the following example does NOT have any CHAP name or secret.

Also notice that the datalink name that the appliance listens on for the initiator requests is shown under the "interfaces" property.
