###################################
NOTICE FOR ORACLE PARTNER SR's
###################################

A system board should not be replaced without first having the fault diagnosed and verified by Oracle TSC.

Please ensure you have an open active SR with Oracle TSC.

Oracle TSC team will email partner engineer the correct MB replacement procedure.

This procedure may be updated over time so its a requirement that TSC provides the current procedure for all new replacements.

Oracle ZFSSA Support team should review the MB replacement procedure from the field WIKI and email a copy to the partner engineer.

Oracle ZFSSA Support team should work with Partner engineer and provide any additional assistance if required.

Some procedures require service mode password gen which has a limited lifespan so Support will need to work with partner team to plan the replacement

( L1 Team if you are unsure of how to proceed or have access issues to the Field Wiki please engage L2 via a collab and request they assist you or work direct with Partner )

###################################
END OF NOTICE

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

PROBLEM OVERVIEW

What: MOTHERBOARD
Where: Chassis SN to be inserted here by SR owner
Why: The MOTHERBOARD has failed and L2 TSC has recommended replacement.

#############################
NOTE TO DISPATCH AND FIELD
#############################

While the system board is a FRU, Contact Oracle Support if this part is suspected to be faulty.

This is due to the Special Requirement of the attending engineer to read and fully understand / prepare for the replacement by following the RPE MB Replacement Procedure which is linked below -

https://stbeehive.oracle.com/teamcollab/wiki/ZFSSAFieldSupport ( Internal Only Wiki - PARTNERS will need TSC to email the relevant process from this wiki to Partner FE ).

The above site contains the 7x10 and 7x20 and ZS3-x MB replacement procedures please choose the document that is relevant to the product you are servicing.

If you have any questions about the procedure please contact the SR owner.

This document cannot be formed into a Canned Action Plan as the document is constantly updated with current best practice.

The Procedure linked contains all the pre-requisite steps as well as the onsite requirements for replacing a MOTHERBOARD in a ZFS STORAGE appliance.

NOTE : For Clustered Systems

It is MANDATORY NOW THAT YOU UNPLUG THE CLUSTRON CABLES (UART0 and UART1 ) and take notice that these cables are crossover connected.

THEY WILL NEED TO BE REPLUGGED IN THE SAME WAY AFTER THE HW REPLACEMENT ACTION HAS BEEN COMPLETED.

READ THIS IN FULL BEFORE ATTENDING SITE.

Please also ensure you are reading the current version and not a version you have copied down from a previous site visit.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

Confirm the appliance is in a normal state. Check both BUI access and client data access after system has completed final boot.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:

Confirm there are no faults reported in the appliance BUI. By checking via Maintenance - Problems or Maintenance - Hardware.

More guidance for beside issues can be found in the below reference section.
