Solution

The below example is from an Email Alert but the same information could be in the Event log as well.

Event name: iSCSI Session Login Failed
Date occurred: 2010-09-17T14:31:55-05:00
Parameters:
Details = 0
InitiatorDeviceName = 65535
InitiatorIPAddress = 10.10.13.20
Reason = 12
iSCSIPort = 0

The following are a list of reason codes to help debug the issue.

SAN_ISCSI_LOGIN_FAILURE_NONE = 0

SAN_ISCSI_LOGIN_FAILURE_PROTOCOL_ERROR = 1

SAN_ISCSI_LOGIN_FAILURE_VERSION_MISMATCH = 2

SAN_ISCSI_LOGIN_FAILURE_SESSION_NOT_FOUND = 3

SAN_ISCSI_LOGIN_FAILURE_INITIATOR_TASK_NOT_FOUND = 4

SAN_ISCSI_LOGIN_FAILURE_MULTIPLE_CONNECTIONS_NOT_ALLOWED = 5

SAN_ISCSI_LOGIN_FAILURE_CONNECTION_REINSTATEMENT_NOT_ALLOWED = 6

SAN_ISCSI_LOGIN_FAILURE_INITIATOR_NOT_PERMITTED = 7

SAN_ISCSI_LOGIN_FAILURE_TARGET_NAME_MISMATCH = 8

SAN_ISCSI_LOGIN_FAILURE_AUTHENTICATION_STAGE_REQUIRED = 9

SAN_ISCSI_LOGIN_FAILURE_INITIATOR_CHAP_NOT_CONFIGURED = 10

SAN_ISCSI_LOGIN_FAILURE_TARGET_CHAP_NOT_CONFIGURED = 11

SAN_ISCSI_LOGIN_FAILURE_UNKNOWN_AUTH_METHOD = 12

SAN_ISCSI_LOGIN_FAILURE_UNKNOWN_CHAP_ALGORITHM = 13

SAN_ISCSI_LOGIN_FAILURE_CHAP_NAME_MISMATCH = 14

SAN_ISCSI_LOGIN_FAILURE_CHAP_AUTHENTICATION_FAILED = 15

SAN_ISCSI_LOGIN_FAILURE_IMMEDIATE_DATA_NOT_SUPPORTED = 16

SAN_ISCSI_LOGIN_FAILURE_EXPECTED_KEY_NOT_FOUND = 17

SAN_ISCSI_LOGIN_FAILURE_MAX_LTDS_LENGTH_EXCEEDED = 18

SAN_ISCSI_LOGIN_FAILURE_PDU_TRANSFER_ERROR = 19

SAN_ISCSI_LOGIN_FAILURE_MAX_REQUEST_COUNT_EXCEEDED = 20

SAN_ISCSI_LOGIN_FAILURE_TIMEOUT_WAITING_FOR_HOST_PDU = 21

In the example event the reason number can be translated using the Reason Codes above. In this instance the event returned Reason Code 12 which maps to SAN_ISCSI_LOGIN_FAILURE_UNKNOWN_AUTH_METHOD where the client could be mis-configured to use an authentication method unsupported by the Axiom.
